From December 3rd to December 12th, 2021 I was back in LA doing private lessons and learning Taiko. This time I was here for a specific reason: Recital + Concert! I took Yuta Kato’s Yodan Uchi class, Manman’s Quitiplas in the Pocket, and Isaku Kageyama’s Rei so that I could perform them in person at the biannual LATI Recial and the “Art of Taiko” Concert. My week was full with learning Taiko, meeting new Taiko people, and reconnecting with some old ones. A breakdown of what happened.
- Monday: 2 hour Odaiko lesson with Isaku, 2 hour Quitiplas lesson with Manman.
- Tuesday: Saw Fred at Cafe Pruvia, 2 hour Yodan lesson with Yuta, Concert Runthrough Playing Rei
- Wednesday: Met with Sarah Gilbert for lunch, 3 hour Yodan Uchi practice (help from Masa!)
- Thursday: 2 hour Yodan Uchi practice (help from Yuta!), 3 hours Quitiplas rehearsal, 2 hours Rei rehearsal, 1 hour Yodan Rehearsal
- Friday: Lunch with Shoji Kameda, 3 hour Quitiplas + Rei practice
- Saturday: Recital
- Sunday: Concert + Leaving
